Hi guys! Welcome back to my blog and this is my blog entry number 2. Now, if you haven’t visited my first entry about cool unfamiliar Filipino words in connection with the Buwan ng Wika celebration last August, you definitely should check it out.
In this blog entry, we’ll have to discuss about my experiences in my partaking on cause movement and campaigns with the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Luckily, I recently played a role in some campaigns with the use of some aspects of ICT, most of it as school requirements and I can’t believe they’ll be useful again now. This blog will expand each. Let’s go!
Involvement #1: Caltex Fuel Your School Project.
This is a nationwide project participated by chosen schools in the Philippines. The mechanics is that each school will be in contest to have the most likes and shares of their campaign entry in social media. The top 3 of these schools will receive incentives, awards, and schools’ requested items (i.e. Smart TV, Digital Light Microscope, etc.) Our task as students of our school is to help like and share our campaign entry, and also to encourage others to do the same by posting a campaign video. I guess we took a place in top 3 since we received awards and the requested stuffs. Hooray! And that is one result of multiple groups of students helping to promote our school using ICT as medium. Here is the video our group made to help our school:
Involvement #2: Philippine Literary Periods.
In our 21st Century Literature subject, we were required to create an info graphics arranged in a sort of timeline. I guess it was more than just a project, but a campaign to inform others of the events connected to the Philippine history and Philippine literature starting from the pre-colonial period up to the new society. The info graphics was posted on Facebook which we expected to cover wide range of audiences. I suppose it was helpful to make such things because History nowadays is a little bit ignored by the new generation. Here is what our group had made:
Involvement #3: Library Campaign.
This is one of the first campaigns I was involved that uses ICT for our Media and Information Literacy subject. The aim of this campaign is to promote libraries to the public and as a result, encourage people to use them. As a group, we created a video for our campaign. It was posted in Youtube account of one of my groupmates to cover wide range of viewers. The effect of our campaign were not readily observed because it was primarily for project compliance, though we hope that the viewers will be encouraged to frequently visit our libraries. Here is the video:
Involvement #4: Think Before You Click.
This one is a digital poster that was posted in Edmodo as a requirement for our Empowerment Technologies subject. It was about the netiquette and internet rules that must be followed when using the internet. It was not posted in public or social media, but still it was meant to inform or remind the people. Now this is a positive move since many people nowadays use social media and internet where people can virtually interact and create groups. Still, we cannot allow bad manners even for virtual interactions, thus, think before you click. Here is what I made:

Involvement #5: Disaster Infomercial.
Now this one was made two years ago as a requirement for our Araling Panlipunan subject. It was a reminder video to be prepared in some types of disasters including fires, typhoons, earthquakes, and even wars. It was a group project. The video was submitted but was never posted. Still, the video was meant to inform (hence, infomercial) the people especially that our country is frequently visited by calamities, and so now I posted it on Youtube. Here’s the video:
These are some of the involvements in our school community that I supported and I was involved in where we used digital tools and ICT to help spread information and knowledge. It could’ve been hard to cover wide range of people in information dissemination if no ICT was utilized. We would have gone house to house just to inform, or use other means of traditional sharing such as paper posters and such.
“Thankfully, ICT comes really handy if you need it. You just have to acquire enough knowledge to use it properly.”
How about you? Do you have any experiences in campaign movements with the use of ICT?
